Renting Your Property
..........Don't do it.....at least, not to a Turk.
I have heard dozens of stories of Europeans and Turks renting to people and then not being paid the rent for months and sometimes never. It does no good to have a contract, as I have found out. On the advice from friends, I made her sign a contract for the rent for one year. Had I not had a contract, I could have entered the apartment, chucked all her rubbish into plastic bags and thrown it into the street and she couldn't have done a thing, as she had no legal right to be there. Having a contract means that she can stay there until a Turkish joke of a judge sees fit to order her to leave. If you really do want to rent your property, make sure you do it legally and only to a European. Do it through an agent you trust implicitly (you may wait for ever for that!), make sure you pay the income tax on the rental income and if possible, get the utilities put into the renters name. I will find out if this is possible and put my findings here later. Note that, by law, you must have the rental income paid into your bank account, the fines are heavy!! |
